Last weekend’s rained-out White Mountains Hot Air Balloon Festival has been rescheduled for Saturday, Oct. 13, according to Tony Alba, community services manager for the Town of Pinetop-Lakeside.The balloon festival was postponed due to heavy thunderstorms caused by Tropical Storm Bud that moved through eastern Arizona. Lakeside received about an inch of rain from Friday evening throughout the day on Saturday.

“Everyone involved in the planning of the balloon festival was very disappointed that we had to postpone last weekend’s event, but there is no doubt that we made the right call,” said Alba. “The rain, cold weather and wind would have made it a very difficult environment in which to have an enjoyable event. We didn’t take this decision lightly, but after consulting with Arizona Events Group, the event promoter, we felt postponing the festival made the most sense for pilot and spectator comfort and safety.”

Tickets purchased for the June 16 event will be honored for the October 13 reschedule date.
