Kelsea Ballerini, talks about some of the behind-the-scenes highlights of being a new artist getting her new music out there.

Even if “out there” means the tried-and-true method of playing a conference room for the staff of a radio station.

“I wish they could feel what it’s like when you go from playing a conference room to a club,” Ballerini says, “and the whole place sings a long — and it’s because of (radio). That’s a special kind of joy.”

She also confessed her secret for building relationships with the people who are in charge of putting her songs on the radio.

“I took a selfie with every (program director). I’d print them out, write their names, call letters and the city on the back and use them like flashcards,” she admitted of her old-school business savvy.

Now that Ballerini has two Top 10 hits under her belt — “Love Me Like You Mean It” and “Dibs” — it means she’s on the road nonstop. And she has to think about staying healthy. So when she’s with industry people, she’ll eat salads. But if she’s with friends, she’ll have a burger.

And is there any food she doesn’t like?

“I’m like a garbage disposal,” Ballerini said. “I like everything.”
