When he’s not on tour, Tennessee native Kenny Chesney spends part of his time living on the island of St. John. Yet when Hurricane Irma hit in 2017, the 50-year-old performer was one of many residents to lose his home to the storm. While it was devastating, the community’s resilience helped inspire his upcoming 17th studio album, Songs for the Saints.

The album was recorded in the last few months since Irma hit — and while Chesney had plans to record before the storm, the significant change in his life provided further inspiration. “So much has happened since I went off the road in 2016 and all of it, in one way or another, has ended up on this record,” Chesney said in a press release.

“I was at a turning point in my life on so many levels, and then Hurricane Irma hit the Virgin Islands,”
