When Vince Gill was first invited to make his Grand Ole Opry debut, he had to turn them down. Turns out, he already had a pretty important gig scheduled for that same night. He was going to accompany his daughter Jenny on guitar when she sang “You Are My Sunshine” at her school’s talent show.

Eventually, Gill did make his Grand Ole Opry debut. And now, 25 years after his induction, he celebrated his silver anniversary as an Opry member with Jenny – and countless other performers – by his side.

Gill’s induction on Aug. 10, 1991 is considered among the most memorable inductions in the organization’s history. The late Opry patriarch Roy Acuff welcomed him into the family and stood by with a tear in his eye as Gill performed Acuff’s favorite Gill tune, “When I Call Your Name.”

At Saturday’s anniversary show, Gill shared the stage with several special guests including Jenny, his wife Amy Grant,Bill Anderson, Rodney Crowell, Paul Franklin, Patty Loveless, Ashley Monroe, the Time Jumpers, Charlie Worsham and fiddle-playing vocalist Andrea Zonn.
